Why send your child to a Lutheran (Christian) Elementary School?
Why pray for and cheer on our teaching ministers?
Again, why…? Because there’s no neutrality in any teaching, not in our Abiding Word Lutheran School, not in any school. That’s good in our school. That’s not good in secular schools. Non-biblical philosophy always tries to answer: Q: “Where do we come from?” And the answer is: “Evolution!” Q: “What are we to do with our lives?” And the answer is: ” It’s up to me and it’s all about me.” Q: “Where are we going?” And the answer is: “Just make the most of this life!” All teachers – Christian or non-Christian – display their beliefs when they teach.
In our school we have different and better answers – and are eager to teach them. Why? . God in his abiding Word supplies the right answers. Q: “Where do we come from?” God made us. “He gives everyone life and breath and everything else” (Acts 17:25). Q: “What are we to do with our lives?” God made us to serve and honor him with what he gave us. “For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive from God?” (I Cor. 4:7). “You were bought at a price (the blood of God’s Son). Therefore honor God with your body” (I Cor. 6:20). Finally, Q: “Where are we going?” Eternal life because of Jesus and thru faith in Jesus (John 3:16)! Our teachers teach that with a smile and make smiles go down deep in our precious children!
There’s more.
A non-biblical philosophy says: “A child is neutral, with no bent to do evil. And let’s modify his behavior with rewards and appeals to pride.” There are no absolutes of good and evil, only group morality or teacher morality. Sin is not taken into account. And the results have not been good. Education without Christ makes clever demons.
In a Christian school like ours, teachers know what really works – and can openly talk about and let it permeate the teaching. Genesis 8:21 says: “Every inclination of mankind’s heart is evil from childhood” Thus, you have to teach and train a child to be good. It does not just happen. Our teachers know that thru faith and thru hearing and applying God’s Word right action develops: “And how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation thru faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training (improving) in righteousness so that the man of God (and kids of God) may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim. 3: 15-17). That kind of faith “drives” the way we and our kids talk, the way we and our kids live in harmony with others, the way we and others live in peace.
And I have not even touched on the excellence to which our teachers gladly hold themselves to instill skillful knowledge in the common subjects of learning. But in conclusion let me say this: Where God’s Word and God’s Christ is instilled, godliness will be evident and “godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both this present life and the life to come” (I Tim. 4:8). What a blessing to have Christian teachers and Christian peers able and free to influence our children for Christ and godliness during their most impressionable years. God, bless our school.
And God give strength and courage to Christian teachers in non-Christian schools to let Jesus’s great love and wisdom shine thru their teaching!
